Underwater Diving

The Turkish sea shores are appropriate for much more than sun bathing, swimming, and active nightlife. Within the Turkish seas one can discover a fascinating underworld composed of underwater caverns, sunken ships, remains of ancient cities and much more. For this reason, diving is a developed and popular activity in Turkey.

The only areas prohibited from diving are military zones, those conducting scientific research, and areas protected by the law. The top diving destinations in Turkey are located along the coast of Antalya: Kas, Finike, Kemer, and Antalya itself. Antalya has the highest number of diving schools in the country, containing many contrasting dive sites. For instance, a French military transportation ship at the entrance of Antalya harbor; a French battleship lying 1km from the Antalya Yacht Harbor which sank during the war in 1942; B-24 American war plane named “Hadley’s Harem”, attractive rock formations and sea life, small caverns, submerged remains of a cargo ships which sank after crashing on the rocks. Similar views offer the diving sites of Kas and Kemer, too. Finike, on the other hand, is home to one of the deepest caverns in Asia which is accessible to divers, namely Gok Cavern. The cavern reaches the seabed and has a wide entrance, and the presence of stalactites indicates that this has once been dry.
